Quoting and Reposting My Articles

Quoting
Please feel free to quote from any of my articles for the purposes of review or just because you like a bit of it and want to share it with your friends ("Fair Use"). I'd prefer, but don't insist that you also link back to the original. The only thing that would annoy me is if I find somebody trying to pass off what I've written as their own work.

Reposting
I've had a couple of people asking permission to repost or republish articles I've posted here. Thank you for asking permission first: it shows respect. I feel remarkably flattered that people find my writing interesting enough to want to share it with others and I am more than happy for them to do so with no other restrictions than:
  1. I am identified as the author of the piece. I feel strongly about plagiarism. If possible I'd prefer if you linked back to the original on my blog, but I understand that that's not always practical.
  2. I retain copyright on the article. This goes along with #1 - it's my original work and unfortunately there are some unscrupulous people out there who would try to rip me off. Not you - the fact that you're reading this means you respect these things.
  3. If you want to edit the article (for length or anything else) I'd prefer if I could review your edits before you publish to satisfy myself that it retains the essence of what I originally wrote. Naturally you can feel free to give yourself an additional credit as the editor.
I think this is reasonably balanced: it gives me protection as the author while imposing few restrictions for reuse. Thank you for reading.
